I think it’s a combination of the black and white and my subjects that inspired me in working with Alexander’s photos. As I mentioned in the preview, Christina loves black and white photography. I rarely get to use black and white so much in sessions with little ones, but it added a dimension that I love… I feel that their images are a journalistic snapshot of their lives together. Not that color photos don’t document moments beautifully, but black and white just manages to tell a story really well – without any distractions. I had fun with the license Christina gave me to go with it for almost all of their photos. Also, both Christina and Brad had ideas of some shots they wanted – and they were flexible to let me guide them as well. Of course, some smiles from Alexander and parental smooches never hurt a photo session, either.

I thought Alexander had some sweet moments alone with his parents, so I created a collection for each:

Lastly, I found this shot I took of him with E when they were brand new peanuts. At the time, the 2-week age gap seemed so huge… I think they both look very different from their newborn selves but still, of course, ridiculously edible. (I don’t think E even registered that Alexander was right in front of his face. Now he grabs at Alexander and tries to eat him.) 🙂

Sending love (halfway across the world) to E, who’s 7 months today. 16 days and counting…

(Look at his foot – I can’t handle how cute it is.)

I photographed 4.5-month-old Nolan toward the end of my Cleveland trip. Such an easygoing model! He was so cooperative, and his mom Kari had the cutest outfits ready for him.

Here’s a preview of Nolan’s session.

Check out this amazing hat, his teeth (yes, teeth – he had four of them at 4.5 months!), and that great expression. This is one of my favorites:

Happy, ridiculously blue-eyed boy:

Superman likes his feet:

And lastly, another favorite. Kari suggested this one, and I love it. Sweet (and kind of funny, considering he wants to gnaw on her) moment.

I love repeat clients for a few reasons. Of course, it’s nice to work with people you’re familiar with. I get to know their personalities – as well as what they’re looking for – which generally makes for a laid-back shoot. And, especially when working with little ones, they’re usually more comfortable with me and my camera aimed at them. Although it’s unlikely that Ella remembered me from her 4-month session, I felt like I knew her well, and her mom Laura and I had a relaxed, fun time with her shoot.

I also like to see how the babies change in just a few months. Ella is now sitting on her own, has two little teeth, and is rolling over like she’s been doing it her whole life. 😉

Here’s a preview.

I love Ella’s expression here – and that belly, and those thighs… So cute.

We took a bloomer shot like this before, so we thought we’d take another:

We also took Ella outside for some fall photos in November, and since this session was on a beautiful, snowy day, we tried again… Apparently, she likes snow!

This last preview photo is of little Ella’s first taste of snow (It was also her first snowman… well, his head.):

Looking forward to watching Ella grow! 🙂

I recently posted a preview of siblings Sophia, Ava, and Thomas’ session. I’ve finally gone through all of their photos and have a bit more to share.

Sophia (5) and Ava (2) have an adorable playroom with the best in girly activities. After some posed portraits, they played a bit while I snapped some shots, and they immediately went into tea-party zone. Then they baked cookies. They are very good at both. And amazingly cute all the while.

Thomas’ recent birth (he was 3 months in February) was the impetus for the shoot, so here’s a sampling of Tommy-focused photos: (The ones of Cassie kissing him and the girls tickling him might be my favorites.)

And a couple of the little guy on his own:

This expression is heart-melting:

And one last photo of the group:

I absolutely loved meeting this family – Hope to see them again on a future trip to Cleveland!

One of my “older kids” for the Cleveland sessions was Sophie, who just had her first birthday before our shoot. Sophie is absolutely adorable, and her parents, Kacie and Greg, are no different. This is such a sweet family, and I had a great time photographing them… and eating Kacie’s Bubbie (grandmother)’s homemade cookies. 🙂

Here is a preview of Sophie’s session.

Her smile could not be any bigger (and check out those teeth!). And I love her dress, made from authentic kimono fabric:

Loving her playset (in between outfits):

And lastly, a family shot. This was tricky to snap – Sophie had other ideas (this girl was on the move), but don’t they look so happy?

Last weekend in my post about leaving Cleveland and returning to Sarasota, I mentioned that I wanted to bring E home in my jacket. Well, I did! My sister found a great deal on a last-minute flight, so we threw their things together and brought them back to Florida with us. I put E in my jacket to surprise my mother when she picked us up from the airport, and then we had three days of fun.

I of course took the opportunity to take more photos of him (because we don’t have enough…), and here is a collage of his many expressions (that smile on the top row is new – and I can’t get enough of it):

E's faces

And a strip of outtakes because I couldn’t narrow them down…

E's faces - outtakes

And now I am officially back to missing him like crazy. One month, little man, and those cheeks are mine.

This was my biggest family shoot yet. I’ve photographed little Brian many times before, starting from when he was 6 weeks old (!!), but I haven’t gotten the opportunity to capture him with his parents, let alone the whole family! (Will post some prior photos of Brian one day, hopefully not too far from now.)

This session was particularly special because it was a birthday gift for the kids’ grandmother, Marcia. She and her husband Richard, along with their sons, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren, got together for a family portrait session of 9 people – a tricky feat without a studio or access to the outdoors (it was snowing)… but we definitely made it happen. I lucked out with this bunch.

This family is so easy-going and was a lot of fun. I hope Marcia loved the birthday session – and the photos that come from it! Here are just a few.

Marcia and Richard with the three very loved little ones, Cadence, Brian, and JT:

I am in love with this next photo, not because of my skills but because of the fact that Marcia and Richard are giving their grown boys (very grown – these guys are giants) bunny ears:

The whole nine:

One last preview photo, this one of the lovely couple on their own:

What a special way to honor a birthday, and I had so much fun photographing them and being part of their celebration.

Raphael is another 6-month-old boy I photographed in Cleveland, along with his parents, Abby and Matt. Rafi is such a sweet little boy, with adorable, super soft cheeks and a huge grin. His hair is also absolutely amazing.

Here are some preview photos from their session.

I love how Abby and Matt are smiling at Rafi in this photo:

Almost all of my sessions in Cleveland were of one baby – and sometimes the parents. While I love focusing on one child, with his/her individual personality and intimate relationship with mom and dad, it’s also really fun to photograph siblings/cousins. They are of course so comfortable around each other and are often pretty funny – and sweet.

This session was of three siblings – Sophia (5), Ava (2), and Thomas (3 months). The kids are adorable, and the whole shoot was so much fun – cooperative, super cute kids, a fun, easy-going mom, a beautiful house… what more could I ask for?

There are lots of photos from this shoot that I’m still going through, but here’s a three-image preview.

Seriously, look at these little ones… I am obsessed with the girls’ haircuts. And I want to fold up the couch and take it with me to future photo sessions:

Ava, Sophia, and Tommy

Cassie and her baby boy, Tommy, who has ridiculously long and dark eyelashes:

And the adorable family (minus Dad – hopefully we’ll get him next time!):

Ava, Cassie, Tommy, and Sophia

More to come – some of just the girls, a few family shots, and portraits of the little munchkin.
