Sending love (halfway across the world) to E, who’s 7 months today. 16 days and counting…
(Look at his foot – I can’t handle how cute it is.)

E at 6 months, 5 months, and 4.5 months.

Happy 4th birthday to our friend Danni!

And some in full color:

We love this superhero 4-year-old.

I photographed 4.5-month-old Nolan toward the end of my Cleveland trip. Such an easygoing model! He was so cooperative, and his mom Kari had the cutest outfits ready for him.
Here’s a preview of Nolan’s session.
Check out this amazing hat, his teeth (yes, teeth – he had four of them at 4.5 months!), and that great expression. This is one of my favorites:

Happy, ridiculously blue-eyed boy:

Superman likes his feet:

And lastly, another favorite. Kari suggested this one, and I love it. Sweet (and kind of funny, considering he wants to gnaw on her) moment.

I love repeat clients for a few reasons. Of course, it’s nice to work with people you’re familiar with. I get to know their personalities – as well as what they’re looking for – which generally makes for a laid-back shoot. And, especially when working with little ones, they’re usually more comfortable with me and my camera aimed at them. Although it’s unlikely that Ella remembered me from her 4-month session, I felt like I knew her well, and her mom Laura and I had a relaxed, fun time with her shoot.
I also like to see how the babies change in just a few months. Ella is now sitting on her own, has two little teeth, and is rolling over like she’s been doing it her whole life. 😉
Here’s a preview.
I love Ella’s expression here – and that belly, and those thighs… So cute.

We took a bloomer shot like this before, so we thought we’d take another:

We also took Ella outside for some fall photos in November, and since this session was on a beautiful, snowy day, we tried again… Apparently, she likes snow!

This last preview photo is of little Ella’s first taste of snow (It was also her first snowman… well, his head.):

Looking forward to watching Ella grow! 🙂

Whoop whoop! (or, as my mom would say, “Woof woof!”) – got on TasteSpotting again! This time for the dairy-free coconut chocolate pudding recipe (on a buttery shortbread cookie, but that’s optional for those who don’t tolerate or aren’t interested in dairy) – thanks once again to Heidi Swanson and her very useful 101cookbooks.com.
(It won’t be on the home page anymore, but it can be found searching for keywords like “chocolate pudding” or “coconut.”)

I recently posted a preview of siblings Sophia, Ava, and Thomas’ session. I’ve finally gone through all of their photos and have a bit more to share.
Sophia (5) and Ava (2) have an adorable playroom with the best in girly activities. After some posed portraits, they played a bit while I snapped some shots, and they immediately went into tea-party zone. Then they baked cookies. They are very good at both. And amazingly cute all the while.

Thomas’ recent birth (he was 3 months in February) was the impetus for the shoot, so here’s a sampling of Tommy-focused photos: (The ones of Cassie kissing him and the girls tickling him might be my favorites.)

And a couple of the little guy on his own:

This expression is heart-melting:

And one last photo of the group:

I absolutely loved meeting this family – Hope to see them again on a future trip to Cleveland!

One of my “older kids” for the Cleveland sessions was Sophie, who just had her first birthday before our shoot. Sophie is absolutely adorable, and her parents, Kacie and Greg, are no different. This is such a sweet family, and I had a great time photographing them… and eating Kacie’s Bubbie (grandmother)’s homemade cookies. 🙂
Here is a preview of Sophie’s session.
Her smile could not be any bigger (and check out those teeth!). And I love her dress, made from authentic kimono fabric:

Loving her playset (in between outfits):

And lastly, a family shot. This was tricky to snap – Sophie had other ideas (this girl was on the move), but don’t they look so happy?

We went to our friends’ house this weekend, and I was in charge of the meal. They’re both lactose intolerant, so I wanted to find a dairy-free but interesting dessert, preferably something chocolatey. I visited 101cookbooks.com, my go-to for natural, yummy recipes, and found this pudding recipe. I much prefer coconut milk to soy/tofu as a milk/cream substitute, so that was a plus – no substitutions necessary. I also had everything the recipe called for in the pantry, so we had a winner.
I switched some things around in the pudding recipe (by accident, but it worked out well), and I added a shortbread cookie bottom for some crunch (yes, it has butter, but it’s an optional part of the dessert and didn’t bother our friends’ stomachs).
Coconut Chocolate Pudding, modified from Heidi Swanson’s recipe at 101cookbooks.com
Serves 6 with the cookie layer

Shortbread cookies, from this recipe at epicurious.com
Preheat oven to 375°F with rack in middle. Butter a shallow 9- to 9 1/2-inch square baking pan (1 to 1 1/2 inches deep). Line bottom and 2 sides with parchment paper, leaving an overhang. Butter parchment. Blend together butter, brown sugar, vanilla, and salt in a bowl with a fork. Sift in flour and blend with fork until a soft dough forms. Spread dough evenly in baking pan using an offset spatula or back of a spoon, then prick all over with fork. Bake until golden (I recommend slightly overbaking them until they’re browning), 15 to 20 minutes, then cool completely in pan on a rack, about 30 minutes. Cut into 3- or 4-inch squares.
Coconut Chocolate Pudding
Shake the can of coconut milk vigorously for a few seconds. In a heavy saucepan, bring 1 1/4 cups of the coconut milk, sugar, and the salt (just) to a simmer over low heat. While that is heating, in a separate bowl whisk together the remaining coconut milk, arrowroot powder, and cacao powder. It should look like a chocolate frosting.
When the coconut milk and sugar mixture has started simmering, take about 1/4 cup of it and whisk it little by little into the arrowroot mixture. Turn down the heat to the lowest setting, and drizzle the arrowroot mixture into the simmering pan of coconut milk, whisking vigorously. Keep whisking until the pudding comes back up barely to a simmer and thickens up a bit, about a minute.
Remove the saucepan from heat, and continue whisking while it is cooling for about a minute. Now add the chocolate and vanilla, and keep stirring until the pudding is smooth. To prevent a skin from forming, press plastic wrap up against the surface of the pudding. Chill thoroughly (takes about three hours).
Serve over one shortbread square sprinkled with the toasted coconut flakes and a dusting of curry powder.

Last weekend in my post about leaving Cleveland and returning to Sarasota, I mentioned that I wanted to bring E home in my jacket. Well, I did! My sister found a great deal on a last-minute flight, so we threw their things together and brought them back to Florida with us. I put E in my jacket to surprise my mother when she picked us up from the airport, and then we had three days of fun.
I of course took the opportunity to take more photos of him (because we don’t have enough…), and here is a collage of his many expressions (that smile on the top row is new – and I can’t get enough of it):

And a strip of outtakes because I couldn’t narrow them down…

And now I am officially back to missing him like crazy. One month, little man, and those cheeks are mine.

This was my biggest family shoot yet. I’ve photographed little Brian many times before, starting from when he was 6 weeks old (!!), but I haven’t gotten the opportunity to capture him with his parents, let alone the whole family! (Will post some prior photos of Brian one day, hopefully not too far from now.)
This session was particularly special because it was a birthday gift for the kids’ grandmother, Marcia. She and her husband Richard, along with their sons, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren, got together for a family portrait session of 9 people – a tricky feat without a studio or access to the outdoors (it was snowing)… but we definitely made it happen. I lucked out with this bunch.
This family is so easy-going and was a lot of fun. I hope Marcia loved the birthday session – and the photos that come from it! Here are just a few.
Marcia and Richard with the three very loved little ones, Cadence, Brian, and JT:

I am in love with this next photo, not because of my skills but because of the fact that Marcia and Richard are giving their grown boys (very grown – these guys are giants) bunny ears:

The whole nine:

One last preview photo, this one of the lovely couple on their own:

What a special way to honor a birthday, and I had so much fun photographing them and being part of their celebration.
