A lot of my Cleveland clients vacation here in Sarasota, and what a great time to do family photos (instead of in the slushy chilliness that is Cleveland right now). Love it!

Little Natalie, big-brother Tyler, and family made the 18-hour drive (…during the kids’ waking hours, no less! Very impressive.) and are here visiting the little ones’ great-grandmother. Before heading to spend a couple days in Disney, they met me for a tropical photo session, and I can’t even stand the family cuteness…

Jared, Tyler, Susan, Natalie, Marjorie, & Julie

Two of my favorite shots from the session. Not sure it’s visible in this preview, but you can see Julie going for a high-five in Jared’s sunglasses:

The kids were so well behaved and camera-ready… I couldn’t believe it. Most little ones require me (and their parents) to do a lot of coaxing, chasing, singing… whatever it takes to get some great shots. And I don’t mind that – I expect it. They’re little! But that’s not to say that I don’t love the rare occasion that I get a 19-month-old who poses and a 4-year-old brother who helps carry the little chair, hugs his sister, climbs a tree and smiles…

Lastly, I love these family shots. I was taking some photos of Julie and Jared, and then the kiddos stole the show.

Such a fun session on an absolutely perfect FL spring day!

For our Oscar-watching party, we needed yummy, healthy snacks that were speedy to prepare (shooting a wedding the day before, there wasn’t much time for party prep). Also, our friends have some dietary restrictions, so that added a challenge. Inspired by a farro salad I made for this crew once before as well as the gorgeous radishes and lemons from our organic delivery (Sun Coast Organics!), my sister and I whipped up this simple, delicious orzo salad in a matter of minutes (maybe 20). The main dish was surrounded by munchies of roasted veggies, kettle corn, Ange’s homemade strawberry pie, Erin’s scrumptious Whole Foods treat box of chocolate-covered pineapple and other goodies, and coconut chocolate pudding. Can’t wait for next year!

Orzo SaladOrzo Salad with Asparagus, Radish & Fennel, serves 4-6

  • 1 lb orzo
  • 1 bunch radishes
  • 1 bulb fennel
  • 1.5 cups asparagus, chopped into bite-sizes pieces (approx)

for dressing:

  • 1 small lemon, juiced
  • 1 tbsp non-fat Greek yogurt
  • 1-2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 sprig dill, finely chopped
  • salt & pepper, to taste

Preheat oven to 375°F with rack in middle.

Boil the orzo in salted water, making sure to leave the paste al dente (about 7 minutes). Drain, rinse thoroughly with cold water, and set aside.

Preheat small roasting pan in the oven for a few minutes (5 will do). Toss the asparagus in a drizzle of olive oil, salt and pepper, spread on the preheated pan, and roast until just cooked but still crunchy, 5-7 minutes. Meanwhile, slice the fennel and radish bulbs as thinly as possible.

For the dressing, whisk together the lemon juice, Greek yogurt, olive oil, dill, salt and pepper.

Toss all of the ingredients together in a large bowl, top with a dollop of Greek yogurt, and enjoy! (It goes really well with panko-breaded chicken or another mild-flavored protein… and makes great leftovers, too!)

I ended up shooting a wedding at the last minute this weekend since the original photographer, Mollie Grady, was out of commission due to pneumonia (eek!). I love our community of photographers and was happy to be able to step in – I know Mollie and I have similar approaches to how we shoot, so I hope the transition was fairly seamless… I tried to make Mollie proud and the couple, Sara and Chris, as at ease as possible (which was not a difficult task – these two were very easy-going!).

Here’s just a quick one-shot sneak peek with many more to come!

This was their “first look” – at the beautiful penthouse at Golden Gate Point.

I met little Delilah while on another photo shoot downtown last summer. I snapped a few shots of her then (check one out here). The combo of her complete adorableness and that amazing outfit were just too cute to handle, so I was excited to finally have a full session with her and her parents to celebrate her second birthday.

I think she got even cuter…

…And maybe a little bit harder to catch. They get a lot faster from 18 months to 2 years!

A rare pause in the action with her parents, Trevor and Danielle, and her lamb friend “Mimi”:

There is something to be said for posed shots, everyone looking at the camera and smiling. You can see people’s beautiful faces and eyes, and they often make for happy photos. But in my eyes, you can’t beat the true, candid moments between parents and their little ones…

Last week, I posted some shots of gorgeous Vivi before her big Sweet 16 party. Here are a few more from last week’s session:

Vivi

I love looking at these two shots of the family back to back:  🙂

Now for Vivi’s party Saturday night… Everyone had so much fun, they extended the party until 2am! There was food and dancing, dancing, dancing, with two really great DJs, a performance by Simple as Surgery, and late-night dance tunes by a live band accompanying cotillón (or “crazy hour”), a Latin party tradition.

Here’s a collage of some of my favorite shots (everyone wore black and white, and Vivi had two purple dresses :-)). (That’s a virgin sour apple martini, by the way…)

In preparation for her upcoming Sweet 16, we shot some photos of Vivi and her family by their gorgeous home. I’m excited to photograph her big party this weekend!

She swears to me she’s never done any modeling, but I find that hard to believe, no??

Vivi

I mean, come on…

Vivi

The camera loves her, as they say.

Her family’s not too bad, either. 🙂 So fun and easy to photograph – I love it!

One last shot of Vivi (for now). I’m obsessed.

Vivi

Sheesh, she’s gorg.

Saving the photos of Vivi in her super-fun dress to keep it as a surprise for the guests. 🙂

Happy weekend!
