I ended up shooting a wedding at the last minute this weekend since the original photographer, Mollie Grady, was out of commission due to pneumonia (eek!). I love our community of photographers and was happy to be able to step in – I know Mollie and I have similar approaches to how we shoot, so I hope the transition was fairly seamless… I tried to make Mollie proud and the couple, Sara and Chris, as at ease as possible (which was not a difficult task – these two were very easy-going!).

Here’s just a quick one-shot sneak peek with many more to come!

This was their “first look” – at the beautiful penthouse at Golden Gate Point.

Happy New Year!

I rang in 2011 by capturing the wedding of Kate & Adam in Boston. Apart from having to wake up at 6am to catch our flight back to Sarasota (and 77 degrees – yay!), it was such a great experience. Kate is the most laid-back bride I’ve ever seen (although it may be a tie with Molly), and I felt like I’d known the two of them and their family for years – even though I only met them on wedding day! Everyone, from the bridal party to Kate & Adam’s families to the band (Night Rhythm) to the reception staff, was so nice and fun.

They had a beautiful candlelit ceremony at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in the South End followed by a New Year’s celebration and reception at The Colonnade Hotel.

I have tons of photos to go through, but here’s a little sneak peek…

Kate had really wanted sparklers on their wedding cake, but it wasn’t allowed at the hotel. Instead, her mom arranged for the newlyweds to be welcomed at their reception by dozens of sparklers. It took a bit of planning, with some detouring of the limo to make sure the surprise wasn’t ruined, and it turned out perfectly. Nice work, Geri! Plus, I think this is one of my favorite shots – so happy, vibrant, fun, and festive!

Kate & Adam

Backtracking to the ceremony… Another of my favorites. Such a gorgeous bride, stunning setting, happy, happy groom…

Kate & Adam

Last photo for today… One of the first from 2011. I absolutely love the energy from Kate & Adam (and everyone else, actually!). They are not having a bad time. 🙂

Kate & Adam

Congratulations, Kate & Adam! Thanks for asking me to photograph your beautiful wedding day. 🙂

Ellie P. Campbell Photography 2009-2010It’s my one-year anniversary as Ellie P. Campbell Photography. 🙂

(Well, yesterday was, but I didn’t have time to post about it.) Although I did photography well before August 2009, this is celebrating one official year on my own. As with most things all-consuming yet wonderful, it feels like this past year has flown by but also as if I’ve been doing this for years and years. I absolutely love what I do and am very happy to be where I am.

Here’s a very long photo-year-in-review…

A shot from my first official shoot on August 1, 2009 of beautiful Eva and her gorgeous little guy Julian:

Julian and Eva

Followed by E’s birth just a couple of weeks later (and thus began my camera’s love affair with my very edible nephew):

Newborn E

And then I photographed the marriage of our great friends Larry and Erin (i.e. Larin) – full blog post here:

Larin

Then there were many fall little-ones shoots in Cleveland, like for the amazing Lily:

Lily

And December babies, like Anabella:

With the holiday season came photographing E for their New Year‘s card… (don’t you want to ring in the New Year with this scrumptious little barkeep?):

Ethan New Year

During our lovely Floridian winter, Talia and I shot the campaign for her company, Green Apple Accessories:

Talia - Green Apple Accessories

Then in February, there was a snowy trip to Cleveland, filled with lots of fun wintry shoots, like with E’s cousin Nathan (here with his mama Jill):

Nathan and Jill

…and of course some shoots indoors to defrost, like with this awesome crew – Brad, baby Alexander (so many baby boys!), and Christina:

Brad, Alexander, and Christina

There was this super-fun family session… Here are the adoring grandparents Marcia and Richard with three of their lucky grandkids, Cadence, Brian, and Cadence’s little brother JT:

Cadence, Marcia, Brian, Richard, and JT

Then we had an incredible family trip to Israel, visiting family, touring the country, and putting E in fun antique chairs at the Yafo flea market:

E in Yaffo

A few hours after getting off the plane from Israel, my work with the Sarasota Film Festival started – This was the first (and hopefully not the last) year I was a staff photographer. There were a bunch of events that week, including the In Conversation with… series with people such as Patricia Clarkson and Vincent D’Onofrio:

And incredible hooping performance outside the premiere of The Hooping Life:

Hoola Monsters

And more fun stars like Stanley Tucci and Steve Buscemi:

Beautiful Ava was born in the spring…

Also in the spring, my super-smart brother-in-law Jonah received his MD and PhD simultaneously and then became published in JAMA:

Babies I’d met and photographed as newborns (both friends and clients) began walking and having birthdays, like little Sydney:

Syd

There were also some “older” clients during May’s Cleveland trip, like the beautiful 6-year-old McKenzie:

McKenzie

Later in May in Boston, this striking and happy duo, Lucy and Chase, were engaged:

LBP & JCJ

Also in Boston, I photographed the gorgeous bffs, Danielle and Abigail:

Back in FL, this summer started off with a bunch of newborns, like the precious tiny Gia:

And also one really touching 50th anniversary shoot for Ron and Sonia:

Ron and Sonia

To round out the summer of babies and anniversaries and to top off an amazing first year as Ellie P. Campbell Photography, there was Molly and Lou‘s beautiful beach wedding on Islamorada, FL in July:

Molly and Lou

I am so, so grateful for and excited about how this past year has turned out. I’m lucky to have a husband, family, and friends who have encouraged me to go for it as well as to have incredible clients who let me share in so many intimate, special moments and events in their lives and who have made my job fun and inspiring. I am looking forward to what unfolds over the next year! Thank you, everyone!

This past weekend, I photographed Molly and Lou’s wedding. They are not only great people and friends but likely the easiest, nicest clients anyone could ask for.

The wedding took place at Cheeca Lodge & Spa on Islamorada, a gorgeous Florida Keys resort and great getaway for everyone that traveled down for the wedding (even for us Sarasotans). Beautiful tropical waters, lots of activities (fishing, snorkeling, bicycling, etc.), and addictively yummy key lime pie… a perfect setting for a relaxed, fun wedding.

After first run-through of the thousands of photos from the weekend, here’s a little sneak peek.

Happy honeymoon, safe travels, and thank you, Molly and Lou!

I was in the mood to blog about something slightly different/new when I realized that I hadn’t yet posted about Larry and Erin’s wedding. Lots of photos in this post, so it’s a long one.

Larin, as we call them, got married in September here in Florida, with the ceremony at their church and reception at Mattison’s Riverside in Bradenton. These two are our great friends, and I was honored to photograph their wedding alongside another friend and photographer, April Nowotny.

Larin exude wholesome, genuine happiness and love. They adore and support each other and don’t seem to let anything trivial get in the way of that. Their wedding was a refreshing reminder of how important it is to be 100% together – in the moment – with your spouse and family, and they as a couple are a great example of how wonderful it is to enjoy the special moments together in addition to the seemingly mundane. We joke about how Larry gets wildly excited about the simplest things – Erin gets a new pair of shoes, J (my husband) has an upcoming Fantasy Football matchup, I have a new treat from Whole Foods… but it really is a great way to be. Why focus solely on the big events and things in our lives? And maybe it’s just that mindset that made one of their “big events” so great; when there’s no pressure to make one day perfect because you enjoy each one, it’s easier to let go, be present, and have fun!

So here are some of my favorites from their day. April’s can also be viewed on her blog.

I photographed the men getting ready; April was with the ladies. (That’s my husband in the back whose tie was actually tied by a combo of Larry and Marty due to our joint lack of ability as tie-tiers.)
