It’s been a newborn kind of month! I love it. 🙂

I met 4-day-old Max (as well as his awesome 6-year-old brother Jake and amazing family), and he was such a sweet, easy little boy. I love that people welcome me into their homes during such a special time and let me share a little bit in their new baby’s adorableness.

Check out this peanut package:

And lastly, my favorite photo from the session… I love it for many reasons…

Jake and Max

It happened sort of by accident (Kim wanted Jake to feed Max to help him relax a bit for this pose, so we took one shot of this, which I didn’t touch in post-processing). It speaks for sure of brotherliness to me (even without the “little brother” outfit Max is wearing, but made more so because of it). It shows how they look alike. It’s so summery. Jake is feeding Max but focused elsewhere (like he’s saying “I’ll take care of you, little guy, but I have other things to do, too.”). And Max is so super teeny next to big-brother Jake… That’s why I love it. Just me?

I just met and photographed brand-new Gianni Lyn, a beautiful and amazingly tiny baby girl. She was almost exactly 7 days old and the perfect newborn model.

Just check out this precious little human!

A pretty perfect little bundle:

And this love from her parents, Jason and Jen… just too much.

Here comes a super-long post (of lots and lots of photos)…

I’ve been excited to take photos of my photographer friend Holli since I heard she was pregnant. First of all, Holli is beautiful (yep, inside and out). Second, she is incredible (generous, sweet, funny…). And third, her family is also both of those things.

Well, the opportunity for maternity shots came and passed, and now little Ava is here. So this weekend J and I finally got to meet the 6-week-old peanut and play with big brother Mason. 🙂

Now for some photos!

First Mason played around in the pool on the very, very hot day:

Mason

…While Hol and Ava had a little moment. (“Wake up, Ava. You have guests!” Nope, nothing. Out cold.) Check out Ava’s adorable Mohawk!

Holli and Ava

So we brought her inside for some beautiful sleeping shots…

I love, love, love this one:

Holli and Ava

And maybe this one, too:

Holli and Ava

Okay, so they are good models. I sort of love this one, too…

Holli and Ava

And some other super-cute ones of these super-cute girls…

Hol tried to get some with Ava’s eyes open. Didn’t happen.

Holli and Ava

Maybe this?

Holli and Ava

Okay, Ava, you keep sleeping. (How sweet are these…? And Holli’s eyes – forget about it.)

Holli and Ava

Her eyes are open (sort of)! Could this little girl be any more precious?

Ava

Yes, she can, here: (one of my favorite teeny baby shots)

Ava

Time to put some clothes back on… and be awake for just a minute.

Ava

Now Kevin’s turn to get into some photos:

Holli, Ava, and Kevin

Too adorable…

Time for Mason to take off his water wings and get in on the love:

Mason

Snuggle from his mama – those eyes…

He is so, so sweet to his baby sister…

And lastly, tiny baby feet:

Ava

Oh – and a couple Holli took of me and the munchkin (thank you, Hol):

I think it’s a combination of the black and white and my subjects that inspired me in working with Alexander’s photos. As I mentioned in the preview, Christina loves black and white photography. I rarely get to use black and white so much in sessions with little ones, but it added a dimension that I love… I feel that their images are a journalistic snapshot of their lives together. Not that color photos don’t document moments beautifully, but black and white just manages to tell a story really well – without any distractions. I had fun with the license Christina gave me to go with it for almost all of their photos. Also, both Christina and Brad had ideas of some shots they wanted – and they were flexible to let me guide them as well. Of course, some smiles from Alexander and parental smooches never hurt a photo session, either.

I thought Alexander had some sweet moments alone with his parents, so I created a collection for each:

And my favorite family shot of the session:

Lastly, I found this shot I took of him with E when they were brand new peanuts. At the time, the 2-week age gap seemed so huge… I think they both look very different from their newborn selves but still, of course, ridiculously edible. (I don’t think E even registered that Alexander was right in front of his face. Now he grabs at Alexander and tries to eat him.) 🙂

E is 6 months old today at 5:18pm… I took this photo when he was exactly one week old.

E - 1 Week

Wowzer. They sure don’t spend much time being this tiny. Now here he is on his first half-birthday:

E 6 Months

I miss when he was just a little peanut… But he is so cute these days, I can barely stand it.

Some of the things he likes to do at 6 months:

  • Laughing – at “sneezing” (we’ve started to fake sneeze now that we’ve discovered he finds it hilarious), at belly tickles, at our faces in the mirror, and at one of his toys that makes really silly noises (check it out: this thing is amazing)
  • Sitting up like a champ
  • Showing zero interest in crawling
  • Grabbing things, especially non-baby-friendly objects like cell phones and tissue boxes
  • Not being in his car seat
  • Singing – “Eensy, Weensy Spider” and “Pants on the Ground” are fun; J and I instituted the latter into his repertoire
  • Reading – He even flips pages, albeit accidentally (or shuts the book when he decides we’re done)
  • Not being in the snow

Happy 6-month birthday to little E. So happy I get to squish him and kiss him.

We are headed to Cleveland today. Off to spend two weeks with this little one…

Super E

…Yep, he’s super, all right. (Wasn’t his handmade Halloween costume sweet?! My sister is ridiculous.)

I’ll be posting from the wintry weather, cozied up with the little man.

So if you saw my blog Thursday, you know that I photographed one-week-old Charles, born to parents Leymis and Kavin. Here’s a bit more about that shoot – with a bunch of photos, of course!

Leymis and I have been in touch for years through work, and I was very happy to get the opportunity to capture the arrival of her little guy. Although he was due at Christmas (I was eagerly awaiting the news, geared up with my camera for the new tiny man), Charles had other plans and decided to join world outside of his mama’s cozy womb on January 12.

I photographed him when he was exactly one week old. He was a tiny peanut (even being three weeks late), but he was alert and wriggly beyond his years (or days)! While I’d envisioned a blissfully sleepy newborn, I got a wide-eyed model who stared me down as if he were saying, “Yep, I know what I’m doing.” But how they keep you on your toes is part of what’s so fun about photographing babies! And anyway, I do love the expressions of an alert newborn, and Charles looks like he has a lot to think about.

Check him out!

Staring out the window:

I love his expression in this one (actually, I love his expression in all of them, but there’s something about this in particular…):
